Thanks for calling Hershey!
Hershey needs to hear from you right now.
Call (717) 534-4200 and use this script:
“Hi, my name is [your name] from [your city]. I’m a [student, mom, dad...] and one of your valued Valentine’s Day customers! It concerns me that Hershey cannot guarantee that it is not using Conflict Palm Oil in its products because Conflict Palm Oil is associated with land grabbing, child labor, deforestation, and a host of other ills. I don’t want to buy Valentine’s Day chocolates and candies that impact rainforests, endangered species, Indigenous Peoples and communities.
Hershey has taken a step in the right direction by releasing a new palm oil commitment, but that commitment has major holes in it. It does not require Hershey’s palm oil suppliers to eliminate human rights abuses and forced and child labor, this needs to be fixed. Right now, Hershey relies on sourcing so called sustainable RSPO certified palm oil. This isn’t good enough as RSPO oil is still associated with land grabbing, child labor and deforestation. In order to gain my trust Hershey needs to adopt a palm oil policy that will eliminate the destruction of rainforests, carbon-rich peatlands AND human and labor rights violations from its supply chain.
If Hershey wants to be part of my Valentine’s Day’s next year, it better get to work and eliminate Conflict Palm Oil from its products.
